| n | Harry Vardon was special, the first Briton to win the U.S. Open and the British Open six times.
|
| n | But where did the disadvantaged boy first learn to play the game, that was his ticket to fame? |
| n | Where exactly did he come from...and how did he react to the great and the good building a golf course on the unspoiled common on which his family lived?
|
| n | Imagine... an ordinary man becoming so good that he took tournament after tournament, turning golf into a full-time career, at a time when most of the top of his profession all came from the upper classes. |
| n | Sounds too good to be true? |
| n | Well, this was what Harry Vardon did. |
| n | Think about it for a second... One of a large family born to a garden labourer. His Father had lost his shipbuilding job when steel hulled vessels replaced the traditional wood in the 1860s... Not doing well at school, his son became a gardener himself, only to be spotted by his golf playing employer as having talent. |
| · | Being restricted as to when he was allowed to use the golf course. Sunday was the only day reserved for working men... Gentlemen did not play on the Sabbath. |
| · | Traveling to the North of England to get his first job as a professional and having to leave behind his family and his sweetheart in Jersey. |
| · | Returning hastily to marry her when, as a result of a visit home, she fell pregnant. |
| · | The child dying and the depression of his distraught wife. |
| ¡ | See the gorse covered golf course location that inspired him. |
| ¡ | Understand the history of the village and the island that he came from. |
| ¡ | Get a feel for the seaside links that he was to write about in his book. |
| ¡ | Visit the road where his sweetheart lived. |
| ¡ | Take a look at the church where they married. |
| ¡ | The cemetery where they buried their infant son. |
| ¡ | The magnificent statute erected at the entrance to the Royal Jersey Golf Club today. |
| ¡ | The monument on the 12 tee near to where his demolished childhood cottage once stood. |
| ¡ | The golf medals that he won, including the U.S. Open in 1900. |
| ¡ | Plus, lots more |

Well, it's really quite simple. Someone made a mistake. I have some discs that, when they were run off they were not put into the cases I had asked for. They are simply packaged wrongly.
Instead of the DVD type boxes, fully printed in colour back and front that they should have been in, they have been put into less expensive Jewel Cases in error. There is nothing wrong with them, just not the box with printing on both sides that I had specified. I am going to offer these to you, but be quick I only have
a very few left.
This unique DVD video of Harry Vardon's early life will take you back to the Jersey of the late 1800's where he grew up and first witnessed the game that the "group of strange gentlemen" brought to his quiet unspoiled common land home.
See what it looks like today with the beautiful seaside links laid out under the brooding eye of a magnificent medieval castle. Get a taste for the island as it was then and as it is today.
See the array of golfing medals that now have pride of place in the Jersey Museum in St.Helier and the bronze statute that the islanders have erected to their famous golfing son.
